Why do Newcastle fans think they are getting Gervinho?

I mean he has just won the French title and helped his club Lille into the champions league, so he is at a great period in his career. He has also said that he wants champions league football, so surely going to Newcastle would be a step down, as they will finish mid-table with no european football. I am an Arsenal fan, and think that he will either stay at Lille, come to Arsenal, or go to Liverpool who can offer him Europa league football, and a promising campaign next season.
