If i use explosion, can i then use retaliate and get the added power boost from it?

lets say my golem uses explosion and kills itself while simultaneously killing a raichu. if i then toss in my own persian and use retaliate on my opponent's next pokemon, will retaliate get the extra power boost since my golem fainted last turn? my research indicates that retaliate gets the boost if your pokemon fainted in the previous turn, so would this work? thank you for the help!!
